Who we are
At Illuminect, we develop advanced radiation detection and measurement technologies that help researchers translate new radiopharmaceuticals from the laboratory toward clinical application.
Our current focus is the development and commercialization of illumiQ, an innovative radiation measurement platform based on technology originally developed at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The technology is designed to address an important measurement gap in preclinical nuclear medicine by accurately quantifying radioactive samples over a much broader activity range than conventional well counters, while maintaining the sensitivity required for low-activity research.
illumiQ uses a segmented detector architecture together with coincidence analysis, advanced signal processing, and dead-time correction to improve measurement accuracy and extend dynamic range. This approach is particularly valuable for emerging radiopharmaceutical research, including targeted alpha therapy, radiotheranostics, PET and SPECT tracer development, biodistribution studies, radiochemistry, dosimetry, and quantitative preclinical imaging.
Illuminect is developing two complementary versions of illumiQ. A high-performance spectroscopic system is being designed for applications requiring radionuclide identification, spectral analysis, and measurement of complex isotope mixtures. A second, lower-cost high-dynamic-range platform is being developed for laboratories that primarily need reliable activity measurements across the broad range encountered in preclinical research.
Our development philosophy is strongly collaborative. We work with researchers, nuclear medicine laboratories, radiochemists, physicists, and radiopharmaceutical developers to understand real-world measurement challenges and design instrumentation that integrates naturally into existing workflows. Prototype technology has already undergone extensive development and evaluation within the NCI research environment, with additional metrology work performed at NIST and broader academic collaborations supporting continued development.
We are actively seeking preclinical research institutions, radiopharmaceutical companies, nuclear medicine laboratories, and technology partners interested in evaluating illumiQ, contributing application requirements, developing new measurement protocols, or participating in collaborative studies and publications.
Illuminect believes that better radiopharmaceutical development begins with better measurement. Our goal is to combine detector physics, instrumentation, simulation, and practical product development to create measurement tools that researchers can trust—from the first experimental dose to the technologies that ultimately reach patients.
At our core, Illuminect is built around precision, innovation, and collaboration. We are developing illumiQ not simply as another radiation instrument, but as a platform that can help make preclinical radiopharmaceutical research more quantitative, reproducible, and easier to translate.
